Inmates are allowed 300 minutes per month January thru October, and 400 minutes in November and December. Calls are limited to 15 minutes per call. The regular cost of an inmate calls is 21 cents per minute with 15 calls costing $3.15.

FDC Philadelphia inmates are not allowed to receive packages without prior written approval from the institution. Inmates may receive magazines, hard and paperback books directly from the publisher. Inmates are housed in two man or three man cells with bunk-beds and toilets. Showers are centrally located on each floor and most housing units for inmate use 7 days a week. TV’s and other recreation facilities including paperback books are included in each housing unit.

Staff and contract chaplains provide for inmate religious services for Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths on Sundays and religious holidays. Medical and psychological health care is provided BOP medical staff, U.S. Public Health Services Officers and outside contract physicians.

All FDC Philadelphia inmates in general population are able to purchase items in the commissary and have a monthly spending limit of $320, with those in the SHU having limited purchasing ability.

The Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania is a branch of the U.S. Office of the Courts. The Public Defender provides criminal defense services to defendant’s being charged with a crime violating U.S. Law by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and unable to afford a private lawyer of their own.

The criminal charges defended includes drug crimes, tax law violations, firearms offenses, bank robbery, racketeering, bank fraud, environmental crimes, and computer-based offenses.

U.S. District Court Eastern District Pennsylvania

The United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania has 5 Federal Courthouses in divisions located throughout the District that hold criminal and civil judicial proceeding for federal cases that originated in the following 9 Pennsylvania counties:

Philadelphia, Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery and Northampton counties

The Courthouses are open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM and closed on weekends and federal holidays.
