The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is a branch of the Department of Justice that was established in 1973 under the administration of President Nixon. It is the lead agency that is responsible for the enforcement of the Controlled Substance Act. The DEA exercises a concurrent jurisdiction with the other agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Immigration and Customs  Enforcement in the prosecution of the federal offense for drug smuggling.
